Now Go Do!

Whenever someone I know has an a-ha in their business or in their life, I end our conversation about it like this: “Now go do!” I studied English in college so I know that this isn’t a proper sentence. But I’ve yet to meet someone that doesn’t know exactly what I mean.

Anything and everything requires action. Moving forward, moving back, playing bigger, playing smaller. Even staying right where you are takes work – more work than moving forward, I’ve found.

My last post was about the importance of strategy. Strategy is the planning. It’s the chicken before the egg. It’s a must. However, equally important is action. In my Infusionsoft world, we call it implementation. It means the same thing – taking the strategy and putting it to work.

I spent last week in Phoenix at the Infusionsoft headquarters. I participated in an event called The 48 Hour Implementation Accelerator. In 48 hours we took a business owner’s big idea and strategized and implemented it over 2 days. I worked with my client to plan and build a Customer Hub membership site, for example. What an amazing experience and an accelerated bird’s eye view of the importance of planning and action in business.

One of my favorite quotes is from the movie The Polar Express: “The thing about trains… it doesn’t matter where they’re going. What matters is deciding to get on.” The same is true in business. You can plan and plan and plan. But you won’t have results until you take action.

Now go do!

Ha ha Jess – I have been the recipient of your ‘now go do’ statement! Your last comment about the train in Polar Express is similar to something I have said a lot: “Get back on the bus!”

As you know, I am a big believer in strategy, too. So many business owners need the big picture view and then someone to help them get there. Glad you had a great experience last week!

Awesome article Jessica! I was just thinking today “Action is where it’s at”. I know that isn’t proper English either – but people get that statement too! Thanks for reminding us of the importance of clarity and then ACTION! Now Go Do – love it! xo

    Hi Jessica!

Your post inspired me to share one of my fave quotes: “The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps – we must step up the stairs.” ~ Vance Havner

Thanks so much for the reminder xo

What a great reminder for all of us, Jessica! I know from having my own CPA practice for seven years that procrastination killed me at times. Whether it was getting ready for tax season, completing a load of work or filing. One of the biggest stumbling blocks I ran into though was when it came to taking my business to the next level. Sometimes I wonder if we subconsciously sabotage ourselves. What a lucky client you have! To have you by their side to help them through that intensive process! Thanks for the encouragement to now go do!

GREAT article Jessica! I am always jumping up on my soapbox talking about taking consistent action, so I appreciate meeting a kindred spirit. 🙂 Its easy to get caught up in over-planning, over-thinking and over-learning. But what really creates results is DOING. Even if you make a so-called “mistake”, you can learn from that, tweak what you did an move forward. Thanks for these practical reminders!

I love it. You are so right as well. Strategy is great, but without the action and implementation to back it up, it doesn’t really mean a whole lot.

I think back to the Social Network movie about Facebook. Could the twins have created the same monster as Facebook has become? Maybe they had the strategy, but their implementation would have been completely different.

Love this Jessica – so true! So many entrepreneurs get caught up in the planning and strategy that they never move forward and “JUST DO IT!” The fear, the “what if’s” the “it’s not perfect yet”. The implementation is key to SUCCESS and you must push thru and do it!!

I LOVE that Polar Express quote! It’s easy to get stuck in planning – that you end up planning and strategizing forever and don’t actually do anything! Action is critical to success.

I definitely want to learn more about the Infusionsoft 48 Hour Implementation … did each of you work with a different client? Was it in groups?
